Skills versus Entrepreneurship
To answer these questions, it becomes imperative that we study what all traits an entrepreneur possess and which one of them can be taught and learned and which one are his own special gifts. Unfortunately, no standard or uniform definition exists that can be applied comprehensively to all the entrepreneurs. Nor, they adhere to a particular stereotype. But still, there are traits which by and large are present in most successful entrepreneurs and will suit for the purpose of our discussion. Let us try and analyze a few of them.

Total Commitment, determination and perseverance:
It is unarguably the most distinct factor that contributes to the success of an entrepreneur. Many start a business, but few can survive the years of drudgery, tension and penury, and those who do go on to make it real big in life. The passion and the fire in the belly is something that comes from inside and is not much affected by the external factors. Those who are born in luxurious surrounding may prefer to be parasites for life and may not be able to withstand the harshness and humiliation that is indispensable when one is starting from a scratch. On the other hand, people who have been brought up in deprivation may lack the spine or the vision to do anything big in life. But, entrepreneurs hail from both the above mentioned strata and others in between them. Hence, in this case it can be treated as an intrinsic factor and not some skill that one will pick along the way.
Leadership:
An entrepreneur is almost always the captain of his ship. He is the leader with a dream and many pin their hopes and aspirations on his success. Some people are born leaders but there are scores of others who got rid of their inhibitions during this lifetime and are now stellar role models for others. This is a trait that is both inborn or can be taught in an environment conducive for the purpose, as many reputed business schools will most certainly vouch for, considering their curriculum which invariably has a mandatory paper on “leadership”.

Technical Skills:
An entrepreneur may not be the best technical hand on the board. But it is of paramount importance that he understands a fair amount of technical jargon and know-how so as to conduct business with his technical team and deliver the desired output. While a flair for technical things may be inborn but surely a sound education helps like no other thing can.
Vision and Communication skills:
It is very important for an entrepreneur to have a vision. After all, unlike a regular employee an entrepreneur is only restrained by the limit of his vision. For having a vision that is realistic and achievable, an entrepreneur should be well aware of his environment and the business conditions he is operating in. He should also have a feel for effective communication so that he is able to communicate his vision to his employees and stakeholders who are critical in his journey towards realizing the vision he has set for himself.

Attitude and Personality:
In the cut throat world of corporate competition, talent is important but attitude is vital. You can do away with a little less talent but if your attitude is wrong, rest sure that your venture is doomed. Having an optimistic and positive attitude helps you in tiding over the uncertainties and adversities thrown by the market as well as life in general. Similarly, your personality is one of your most important assets in a world influenced by visual experiences. It is a well acknowledged fact that a good packaging always lands you a better deal. Nobody is asking you to compromise on the final product, but attention to your personality and manners help in getting your proposal the attention it deserves.
It is not hard for anyone to comprehend after going through the above mentioned traits that entrepreneurship is actually a mix of the inborn and inherent qualities of an individual and the skills and training that he has acquired in the course of life. A successful entrepreneur is one, who can beautifully blend both of these and is able to deliver the optimum mix.
